What is it? is it right for me? due to the incredibly effective and efficient way havening* works with the brain, many people who have tried a lot of other things find this can be the technique that makes the difference they have been looking for. Havening is in the family of psychosensory techniques. It can be considered the third pillar alongside psychotherapies (talk therapies) and psychopharmacology (medications) for the treatment of physical and emotional suffering. Havening techniques® combine sensory stimuli (touch, taste, sound, smell, sight) with psychological interventions. Some others you may be aware of are emotional freedom techniques (eft), callahan technique–thought field therapy (tft), and eye–movement desensitisation and reprocessing (emdr).

These three components when applied alter the brain waves to allow for the receptor to become internalized and thus block any response. The details are in dr ruden’s book when the past is always present. The question of how havening touch affects the brain to produce this effect led to research on everything from traditional chinese

medicine and their acupuncture sites to the neurobiology of traditional extinction techniques. This led to an understanding that all sensory input could affect the brain, and the field of  psychosensory therapy was born. Through his research he created havening - meaning to take someone to a place of safety.
