This meal plan provides an average of 8700 kilojoules per day and is based on the average energy requirements of 18-65 year old adults with diabetes. Your energy and nutrition requirements vary depending on age, activity, health status, height and weight. For personalised advice, seek the services of an accredited practising dietitian. This meal plan provides the minimum number of serves from each of the core food groups as recommended in the australian guide to healthy eating* for adults (other than women over 51years and men over 70 years who may require additional milk, cheese or yoghurt). This meal plan provides 9 eggs per week.

First, download your free menu planner (pdf, 52kb). Make sure you have all the ingredients for the week in your cupboards before you start. If you have a busy 9-5 job during the week, it might help to batch-cook your meals on a sunday night, ready for the week ahead. As long as the calorie content is similar, you can switch around the meal and snack suggestions for the week. If you’re not keen on tuesday’s lunch ideas, why not swap it for a meal from another day? don't forget to include extras, such as sauces in your calorie counting.

Seven-Day Type 2 Diabetes Meal Plan

What will your daily diet look like as you begin to eat with your condition in mind? here's a sample three-day meal plan to give you an idea of how easy it really is to eat healthfully without depriving yourself when you have type 2 diabetes. It includes sample meals for breakfast , lunch, dinner, and snacks. The entire day's worth of food adds up to around 1,400 calories, with about 50 percent of calories from carbohydrates (this can be reduced if your blood sugars are too high). It's a great jumping off point for planning future meals. Just keep in mind that you'll need to alter it if your healthcare provider recommends you eat a different number of calories— 1,200, say, or 2,200 each day.
