4. Buy bulbs with the appropriate wattage.

Multiply the lumens guideline by the square footage of the functional area to figure out how many light bulbs will meet your light output requirements.
Let’s say you need 2,700 lumens to supply task lighting for an average nine-square-foot workbench (300 times 9). Using the federal trade commission’s lumens-to-watts conversion chart to figure out the equivalent bulb wattage, you will see that buying one 75-watt (1,100-lumen) and one 100-watt (1,600-lumen) incandescent bulb will together supply the 2,700 lumens of light output you need.
6. Choose T5 or T8 fluorescent or LED tubes.
Cri rates the ability of the light to accurately portray colours of objects in the space being lit. The cri is a scale between 0 and 100, where 100 represents true natural colour reproduction for that particular colour temperature.
Sunlight is defined as having a cri of 100. A cri of higher than 80 is usually adequate, but for specialised tasks where colour is important (food preparation, applying makeup, painting), it is advisable to choose light bulbs with a cri above 90. The cri of typical residential light bulbs are:
incandescent light bulbs – 100
fluorescent, cfl light bulbs – 80–95
led light bulbs – 80–90+.

In the past, cheap fluorescent tubes with glaring neon light were often used to illuminate the garage. However, conventional neon tubes have a number of disadvantages: the light is emitted in an omnidirectional pattern the tubes flicker and often start only with a delay they contain toxic mercury reliable lighting at cold temperatures is not guaranteed these are enough reasons to put an end to your old garage lighting. Switch to modern led technology today, because you can even illuminate your garage sustainably with it. These are the advantages of installing led lights : bright even light one hundred percent brightness immediately after switching on
the color rendering index (cri) tells you how closely the light produced by a bulb resembles the light produced by a naturally occurring source, such as the sun. A bulb will have a rating on a scale of zero to 100, with higher numbers indicating a more natural-looking light. For your garage light, choose a bulb with a cri of 85 or higher.
Compared to warm incandescent light, natural light helps the mood of a garage, and it’s also practical. Look for bulbs with high cri, which stands for color rendering index. This measure indicates how realistically the lighting displays colors in your paint, woodwork, metal, and other items around the garage. The index goes up to 100, and you should look for bulbs with a minimum of 85 cri.
