Summary and Conclusions
Learning about the local ecosystems near Wilmington, NC through a fishing charter was an amazing experience. We started the day by charting out our course and having a brief introduction to the area – what types of fish live in these waters, what species of plants, and animals we could potentially encounter. As we set sail, everyone felt excited!! Our captain was knowledgeable and friendly and helped us all identify different species of birds, mammals, and sea life that we encountered on our trip.
However, there were some unexpected challenges: the water temperature wasn't as warm as expected! (It had dropped significantly since yesterday). In addition, the wind was strong which made it difficult to keep track of our route. Despite this though, everyone stayed positive throughout the entire excursion.
We stopped at several locations to explore different habitats including wetlands and mudflats – where wildlife is particularly abundant. Everyone had a great time taking pictures and observing different types of creatures in their natural environment (which was quite beautiful!). We also discussed how human activity can affect these delicate ecosystems; for instance overfishing or runoff from nearby factories can have detrimental consequences on sea life populations.
To conclude our tour, we headed back to shore with a much better understanding of local ecosystems! Each person went home with newfound knowledge about marine biology; something that will stay with them forever! All in all it was an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend – learning about nature doesn't get much better than this!
